Church Prayers and Intercessions

Sunday Next before Lent 2015

Mrs Morag Stewart

Intercessions for Sunday February 15th 2015

Prayers – Sunday 15 February 2015
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, you promised through your son to hear the prayers of those who ask in faith.

We pray that we may listen more attentively to the words of Jesus; give us more awareness of your presence with us, both in our worship and in our daily lives and give us the courage to live out your truth with joy.

Lord in your mercy… Hear our prayer.

Lord of light, transfigure us, increase our vision and reveal your glory. We pray for the world-wide Christian Church in all its diversity, bringing the elements of different cultures into their worship and in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. Especially we pray for those churches who meet together in difficult and often dangerous circumstances. Let them know and feel your all abiding presence to both uphold their courage and strengthen their faith. Transform our darkest places with your light.

In our own church we pray for Charlie, Sam and Jane, for our leadership team and all those who give their time and talents                  so generously to build your Kingdom here. We pray for every member of this congregation and ask that you bless us all this coming week.

Lord in your mercy… Hear our prayer.

Lord of light; we pray for our towns and our cities. We pray for areas of danger, for places of corruption, for poor housing and for the homeless. Help us to be more like you in our dealings with the marginalised of our society, and transform, through us, our places of poverty; change our attitudes for the better towards each other.

Lord in your mercy… Hear our prayer.
Lord of light; we pray for our homes that they may be filled with your presence. Make them homes of peace and kindliness, of holiness and hospitality, of grace and goodness; that you may be known to be among us. Lord help us to be more outward looking, to care for our neighbours and to be more aware of the needs of the people around us.

Lord in your mercy… Hear our prayer.

Lord of light and love; we pray for our hospitals and nursing homes. For the work and devotion of carers whose skill and compassion bring both material and spiritual comfort at times of need. We ask your loving compassion on all whose lives have been marred by tragedy of any kind. We pray for all who are downcast or fearful. We remember those who await a doctor’s diagnosis or an operation. We pray for all who seek healing and hope. We bring before you those most in need in our own community, the elderly, the housebound and those in care.

Lord in your mercy… Hear our prayer.

We give thanks for all who have passed beyond death and been transformed in your glorious kingdom: for the saints, for loved ones departed; that we, like them may come to the fullness of your presence.
Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench.  We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.  We remember today....

You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light.

God who shines in the darkness, receive these prayers and the prayers of our hearts, in the name of the one who is your light, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
