Intercessions for Ordinary 21 by Mrs Mary Stubbs
Intercessions: 24 August 2008
In the knowledge of God’s love for us, let us pray for the church and
the world.
Lord Jesus, as Christians we believe that you are the visible presence
of God on earth. May we listen more attentively to your words both in
worship and in daily life. Clear our vision and speak through our
prejudices, and give us courage to live out to those around us your
truth with joy.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
We pray for the life, teaching and fellowship of our churches. Help us
to support and care for one another. May there be a fresh outpouring of
your spirit as at St. Mark’s and Putnoe Heights we prepare for the
Special “Come back to Church” Sunday in September and the fruitful
consequences for your Church.
We pray for Charlie, Sam, and especially today for Joan as she moves
into a new sphere of ministry and service.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
We remember the nations and their leaders, the temptations that
accompany power. Help us all to work together to share resources, to
respect and learn from one another. Teach us to enjoy variety as part of
your rich gifts to us, rather than fearing it as a threat.
In countries where there is violence and war, we pray for peace and
reconciliation, that your spirit of forgiveness, tolerance and justice
may permeate the political and social fabric of society.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer
We pray for all who do not know you and dismiss your relevance to their
lives. We pray for all adjusting to new relationships in their family.
We bring to you those who are ill, in pain , in trouble, fear or
despair, all who try to bring support and care to those in need. May
they know the revitalising assurance of your presence, your healing,
your understanding and comfort. May we offer to you our willingness to
help wherever you can use us.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
Father, we bring to you those who have recently died and commend them
into your everlasting care and protection.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can
quench.
We commend to your love those who have died and light a candle to
symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.
We remember ……………………………………..
May they know the joy of heaven for ever.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
Father we rejoice in all the goodness and genrousity your love and
presence inspires in so many people and for the way you guide and
encourage us in our discipleship.
Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our
Saviour, Jesus Christ.
