Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions

Intercessions Sunday 21 August

The bidding is “Lord of our compassion and love” and the response is ‘Hear our prayer.”
So let us pray

“Lord of our compassion and love,
Hear our prayer.”

Loving God, you bind up our wounds, offer us new life and restore us to wholeness; make us sensitive to all who are in need tto trouble, that we may be generours in all our saying, thinking and doing.
May we keep our eyes, our minds, our hearts fixed on our Lord Jesus Christ, the pioneer and perfectoer ofour faith.

“Lord of our compassion and love,
Hear our prayer.”

We pray for the Church, that all Christians may learn to live together in your love and show your glory in the world. You call us to each other though we are different. We ask that creed and colour; class and gender; won’t limit or debar here.
May we always seek to look to you and live out what we profess. May all we do here welcome, include and affirm so that all with whom we have any contact direct and indirect; young and old; may encounter faith, hope, lights, joy and your love in all our lives.
“Lord of our compassion and love,
Hear our prayer.”

We bring to you our world – with its violence, hatred, barriers and walls that seek to divide and turn people in on themselves. We pray that these in authority and power everywhere may not lose touch with the needs of those they serve, so that the poor-oppressed and vulnerable are always given value and respect. And for all the major, seemingly insoluble problems, will you grant these tested with coping with them humility, integrity and courage, so they may be able to discern and do what is right so that somewhere down the line there may be peace and hope for all.
“Lord of our compassion and love,
Hear our prayer.”

And Lord in an age where life is so a terconnected that everyone is a neighbour, we bring to you all we really know who influence our lives.
We pray for our families and friends – those who care for us and about us. May we always be sensitive to their needs and concerns, and in a time of science we bring before you any in especial need. We picture then being enfolded by your loving arms.
Will you be to them all they most deeply need – and will show us how to be agents of your grace for them.
“Lord of our compassion and love,
Hear our prayer.”

Finally,
Lord, we give thanks that you renew, refresh and restore us; we pray for all who have passed through the shadow of death and entered life and light everlasting.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world; a light which no darkness can quench.
So we commend with confidence to you everlasting love to those who have died, and we light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. Today we remember .......

You turn our darkness into light; in your light shall we see light.

Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

We say together, ‘The Lord’s Prayer’
