Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Ordinary 21

Mrs Wendy Waters

In our prayers today the bidding is: Through the power of the Spirit
And the response is: We commit our prayers

As the Apostle Paul urged the Christians in Ephesus let us pray in the Spirit.
Lord our source of strength and power, we pray for your local and global church, that we will always draw on your Spirit to empower and enable us to resist evil, which subtly attempts to divert us from your path of goodness and mercy.  We pray for all those who have been psychologically and physically scarred by members of the church, may they receive the compassion, care, justice and solace they seek.
Through the power of the Spirit
We commit our prayers

Lord you stood and stand for truth, but via the media we are bombarded by both truth and lies.  Help us to discern the difference and always to speak out in, and for, the truth.  Praying that wider society will see the shallowness of the lies and stand with us in pursuing the path of peace where currently the path is trodden by those armed for death and destruction.
Through the power of the Spirit
We commit our prayers

Liberating Lord we pray for all those falsely imprisoned for their belief in liberty and freedom of speech; for speaking out against corruption and injustice; for proclaiming the good news of your saving power; may their voices be heard and their liberty restored.
Through the power of the Spirit
We commit our prayers

Christ the healer bring relief to the suffering of those bound by destructive thoughts; restricted by debilitating medical conditions; disheartened by all that life has thrown at them.  Give them courage in their adversity and a deep abiding trust in you.

God of glory you long for your glory to be spread on earth as it is in heaven, may your glorious light shine on all those who mourn, whether it be for a recent loss, or one of many years standing..
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench.  So we commend to your everlasting love those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ that eternally shines and brings hope.  Today we remember .............................. ............................................................and those who are special to us.
You turn our darkness into light; in your light shall we see light.
Through the power of the Spirit

We commit our prayers
The light of God make us unafraid; The power of God protect us; The joy of God heal us; the grace of God bless us and keep us truthful; now and forevermore   Amen.
Being made one by the power of the Spirit, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.  Amen.
