Christian worship, sermons, prayer and Bible study from St. Mark's Church and Putnoe Heights Church, Bedford, England - The world is our parish |
Intercessions for Ordinary 16 Year B 2006
Lord, quieten us down as we place into your hands those for whom we want to
pray. We know that you love them with a greater love than we could ever
imagine. In the stillness we are here, with you, for them. Father, we thank
you that you have filled your world with so many good things, for our homes
and families, for work and learning, for friends and leisure. Give us all
thankful hearts, knowing you are always with us. Help us when we find it
hard to trust you; guide us when we lose our way; strengthen us when we are
ready to give up or give in.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Dear God, we pray for all church leaders and preachers and those with
pastoral responsibility in the church or in the community. Strengthen and
uphold especially the ministry within our partnership of Charlie, Joan and
Sam and for Liz Spavins and for all her helpers in young people’s groups and
Junior Church. Give wisdom and discernment to our congregations here and at
St Mark’s, that all we say and do may bring you praise and glory to draw
others to Christ.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Father, we pray for those who teach others; for all involved in every aspect
of education. May they have wisdom, integrity, patience and a commitment to
share all that is good and right. We pray for all those who are taught, for
children and young people, especially for those just beginning school or
changing schools, and for those studying away from home for the first time
in their lives. Guide and encourage them on their journey.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Father, we pray for your world; for governments, leaders, diplomats, and all
seeking reconciliation and solution for conflicts. We remember the peoples
and governments of the Middle East, Lebanon, Israel, Iran, Syria and
Palestine, that new ways for peace may be found, that your wisdom may
prevail. Give strength to all who work to relieve the hungry and seek
justice for the oppressed and heal the sick throughout your world. Prosper
the work of Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda and the Faith in Action churches of
Malawi. Bless all you people in these places as they seek your new life in
abundance for their communities and open our hearts and homes to help and
support them.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Lord, we pray for those who, day by day, face hurt and pain and for those
facing operations and long-term illness, and especially those whom we know
are in special need; we name them in our hearts …
We pray for those caring for the sick and the dying, at home, in hospital
and in hospices and for those caring for the elderly and infirm.
Comfort and heal those who suffer in mind, body or spirit; give them courage
and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can
quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to
symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We
remember …
You turn our darkness into light; in your light shall we see light. May the
souls of the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory.
Merciful Father,
accept out prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen
Lord’s prayer
THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sung)
(Modern Form)
Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be your name
Your kingdom come, your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread, forgive us our sins.
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom the power and the glory are yours,
Now and forever. Amen
