Church Prayers for Sunday after Ascension

Ordinary 14

By Rev Dr Sam Cappleman

Father God, you hear the prayers of your faithful people, give ear to our supplications that through our words and actions you may touch your world.

We pray for our leaders, of church and of state, that they would discharge their duties with diligence, honour and grace and carry the yoke of their leadership so that we would be governed with justice and fairness and that the world’s resources would be shared fairly among all people.  We pray for all those who help maintain peace throughout the world, remembering especially the armed forces and all who serve to uphold the law.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who are looking forward to the rest their summer holiday brings.  We ask that that this would be a time of refreshment of body and spirit and we remember those who will not get a holiday this summer for whatever reason and we ask that they too would know your refreshment in their lives.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pre for those who are in need in body, mind or spirit, the lonely and the sick, the outcast and the unloved, those who feel weary and burdened.  We pray that you would draw close to them and show them your compassion and bring those who are sick to wholeness and health.  Strengthen those who care for them and assure them of your upholding love and support.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light no darkness can quench.  We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.  We remember…   …you turn our darkness into light and in you shall we see light.  May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen
