Intercessions for Ordinary 13 Year B 2006
Prayers by Alison Holden
Let us pray for all people, in all places, in their many kinds of need.
We pray for people in all parts of the world where life is a daily struggle
for survival despite war, famine, disease or the cruel, selfish or
thoughtless behaviour of others. We pray for the peacemakers and the relief
workers and all who strive, directly or indirectly, to bring about a change
in the lives of the poor and the oppressed. Our thoughts turn especially to
the desperate plight of people in the Middle East whose only wish is to be
allowed to live peaceful lives in harmony with their neighbours.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We pray for the faith to continue to work towards the time when justice will
prevail, knowing that anything we do in the Lord’s name will make a
difference, even though we cannot ourselves change the world overnight, or
even see the flowering of the seeds we have sown. Strengthen your church to
go forward in faith and unity to continue the work of Christ here on earth.
We pray for our ministers and for ourselves, that we may always be witnesses
to the great love and mercy of Christ our Lord.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We pray for our country and for freedom from poverty and social injustice,
freedom from crime and the fear of crime, and for peace on our streets. We
pray for schools and colleges coming to the end of another academic year,
for families as summer holidays approach, for those who will travel and for
those for whom holidays away are an unattainable dream.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We pray for all who suffer in mind or body and for those who care for them.
We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or
love. We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at
this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can
quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to
symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope. We
remember
You turn our darkness into light: in your light shall we see light.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour
Jesus Christ. Amen.
Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as
our Saviour has taught us.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen
