Prayers for Ordinary 12

Let us pray. Heavenly God, we pray for the life and mission of the church throughout the world. We pray especially for this Church and for Putnoe Heights, for Charlie and for Sam, for all Church leaders, and all who serve in positions of authority. We thank you for the glory of all your gifts. Help us to see them, to count them, and to remember them, that our lives may resound to your praise. As your Church, may we be obedient to your call to preach the good news to the poor, the refugees, the exploited, the alienated, the dispossessed, and the prisoners of conscience. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who accept responsibility for leadership and decision-making in the affairs of the world and this country. May those who represent us in government be men and women of integrity, who keep their promises and lead us in the ways of justice and compassion. We pray that all those involved in talks for peace throughout the world, may promote the welfare and peace for all mankind. Help them to see that peace is the fruit of righteousness, and that righteousness is founded on faith, faith in you, the living God and your redeeming love. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, we thank you for the good things we share with our friends and families, for love and friendship, for food and shelter, for happiness and laughter. We remember and pray especially today for fathers. When we find it difficult to know what to do, give us courage to make the right decisions. Make us ready to extend friendship to others, and to remember the housebound, the lonely and those who need a friends helping hand. Show us what we can do to help, and teach us to be good neighbours. We remember before you those who are out of work at this time. Support them and their families in this time of anxiety, and guide us as a nation, so to use our public and private wealth to help them, and find them suitable employment. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving Father, from whose mighty hands all life and healing come, we pray for all who are in pain or suffering at this time. We remember especially those facing long and incurable illnesses. In a moment of quietness we remember those we know or love who are in any kind of need at this time.

God our Father, you are the source of all health and healing, all strength and peace. Teach us to know you more truly and trust you more firmly. Take from us all that hinders your healing power, all anxieties and fears, and help us in our weakness to rest in your love. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We remember in your presence those who have died in the faith of Christ. We give you thanks for the memory of their words and deeds and for all that they accomplished in their lifetime, Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. You turn our darkness into light. In your light shall we see light. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
