Prayers of Intercession Ordinary 12
By Delia Shephard
Almighty, you gave your Son,
Jesus Christ, to be our redeemer and the author of everlasting life; and
exalted Him above all for ever; so that at all times and in all places we
might share in his power and glory. With this knowledge in our minds and
hearts we humbly bring before you our prayers for the world and all
people.
God of power, defend and strengthen us.
We pray for all people who feel small as they face up to the giants of
power, to uncaring employers, to unjust governments and faceless
multinational corporations, to the gun and the torture chamber. We all
know the feeling of being the little person, the helpless victim of the
school bully or the unimportant casualty of the system.
God of power, defend and strengthen us.
Almighty God, we pray for those people who feel defenceless as their lives
slip from their control; for those weak in body, mind and spirit; for
those destitute, neglected, or abused. We pray especially for the homeless
and those whose homes are no refuge from the difficulties of life but are
places of neglect, cruelty and abuse.
God of power, defend and strengthen us.
Almighty God, we pray for everyone who feels helpless as they watch the
suffering of those they love, for those of us who experience the pain of
physical disease, or the pain of failing lives and relationships. We pray
for the parents who cannot help their children to conquer disease or
starvation and the children who cannot ease the suffering of their
parents.
God of power, defend and strengthen us.
Almighty God, we pray for those who feel powerless as the storms of life
threaten to engulf them, for everyone whose problems seem insuperable, for
those who have been bereaved; for those submerged in fear and despair.
God of power, defend and strengthen us.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can
quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to
symbolise that light which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember
and we pray that they will share your peace in the life everlasting.
We bring these prayers in the name of him who calmed the storm and rescued
his disciples, Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
