Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Ordinary 10

Mr Ian Farthing

The bidding for our prayers is “Lord in yourmercy” and the response is hear our prayer –

Let us pray

Lord God our heavenly Father the giver of all good gifts, we come before you today to offer our praise and to give thanks for your blessings to us.

Forgive us that so often we are more ready to turn to you in times of trouble and need, rather than to thank you in the good and happy times we enjoy.

As we go about our daily lives teach us to be thankful for every precious minute of time.

Help us not to take for granted your gift of life itself, our health and strength, the love and support of family and friends, the beauty and vastness of your amazing creation.

Lord you have given give so much to us all, help us to give you something in return, the love of our hearts, a willingness to serve you and a readiness to share your love and goodness with others.

We pray for your blessing to rest upon this Church. We are grateful for its worship and fellowship; for its nurture and love.

Help us to have vision to see the kind of church you desire in the world today and may always be ready to respond to the many and varied needs of our own neighbourhood here.

Lord in you mercy

Lord God we pray today for families, make your loving presence felt amongst them all, especially those for whom family life is difficult and testing.

Be with those who have no family to care for them. Comfort those whose children cause them worry or heartache. Strengthen those whose children are in danger.

We remember today all children and young people as they near the end of the academic year and for those completing their exams, we pray that all their efforts will be justly rewarded and that they will achieve what is necessary to move forward and realize their full potential.

Lord in your mercy
We pray for those who are less fortunate than ourselves; those who live in developing countries and countries where there is little stability and we pray for all people wherever they may be who struggle to find freedom from oppression.

Teach us to be ever mindful of those in the world who are weary with the relentless struggle to keep alive;
for those who can never look forward to a good meal and a comfortable bed, and those who barely have the necessities of life which we so often take for granted.

Lord God all merciful, we pray for all who face difficulties in their personal lives –
those who are sick, the bereaved, those with problems in their families, in their friendships, in their neighbourhoods or in their workplace.

Help us all to be calm in times of uncertainty,
patient with those around us and steadfast in the knowledge that you share each and every moment and each any every emotion with us.

Lord in your mercy

And today two prayers for people in special need this week

We pray today for families and individuals in Guatemala affected by the volcanic eruption and subsequent landslides

We pray especially for those who have lost loved ones, those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

We give thanks for the energy, resilience, and success of the rescue workers and volunteers responding to their needs.

May all involved in this disaster sense God’s peace and presence around them and may they see a way forward when all seems lost

And now a prayer for Victims of Crime and Violence

Loving God, you are the author and sustainer of our lives. You know the anguish of the sorrowful, you are attentive to the prayers of the broken hearted

We pray today for those who have died as a result of violence and crime,

Draw them to yourself; let your face shine upon them and may they experience your eternal peace and joy.

Be near to all those who have been touched by violence: those who have been hurt, lost their loved ones or lost their sense of security.

Be for them all a steady comfort and a safe resting place.

Lord in your mercy

Lord we pray for all those whom we have loved and see no longer, grant them your peace and, let light perpetual shine upon them,

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench.

We remember before God all those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope.
You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light.

Lord in your mercy

Merciful Father
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen
