Church Prayers and Intercessions for Lent 3
Prayers 24 March, 2019
Lord God, you are the father of all people and we bring our prayers knowing that you will hear us and help us. We thank you for those days in the desert, when through prayer and fasting, Jesus discovered your will for his life and overcame the temptation of evil. Help us, during these days of Lent, to come close to you and listen to your voice. Give us strength to overcome the temptation to please ourselves and live life without you.
Lord in your mercy

God of love, we pray for your blessing to rest upon this Church. We are grateful for its worship and fellowship; for the care and teaching of children and young people; for its nurture and love. Help us to see the kind of church you need today and may we not lose sight of the many and varied needs of this neighborhood. Hold up before us the vision of your kingdom, a kingdom of justice and mercy, truth and compassion. Help us to grasp the meaning of the gospel which you have entrusted to us, and give us grace to live by it.

God of all people, we are glad that the family of your church stretches out all over the world. We pray for your blessing to be upon our Christian brothers and sisters in other countries. Where they are a small minority let them find strength in knowing you are with them; where they are persecuted let them find courage; where they are young in the faith let your Holy Spirit build them up in the knowledge of your love; where they are affluent and accepted keep them constant in the service of Jesus.
Lord in your mercy

God of love, help us as we seek to live our lives according to your example. Help us by your presence to overcome our hasty speech that hurts others; to be free from greed and selfishness, from pride and jealousy; let your presence help us to care about the feelings of others, to be gentle, and ready to say we are sorry.
Lord, you saw deep into the hearts of those who were around you. You knew the arrogance of Peter, the pride of James and John, the hatred of your enemies. But you never stopped loving, and sought to bring the best out of them. Bring the best out of us, so that our lives may reflect your way for the world.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
God of peace, we pray for those who seek to make peace in this divided world; for all national leaders that they may have the wisdom to know and courage to do what is right; for those who are working to improve international relationships that they may find the true way of reconciliation; we pray for our own Prime Minister and members of Parliament as they continue to negotiate the political future of our nation.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
Lord of mercy, we pray that you will bring comfort to those whose life and future has been devastated by war, natural disasters and acts of violence. We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world free from violence and terrorism. Help us to unite against evil and put our energy into the task of peacemaking.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
Loving Father, we place in your gentle hands all those who are sick. Ease their pain, and heal the damage done to them in body, mind or spirit. Be present with them through the support of family and friends and in the care of doctors and nurses, and fill them with the warmth of your love, now and always.
Father of all we pray for those we love, but no longer see and remember them now in our hearts. Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember today
You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our saviour, Jesus Christ
