Church Prayers and Intercessions for Lent 2
Faithful God of love, you blessed us with your servant Son so that we might know how to serve your people with justice and with mercy. We gather the needs of ourselves and others, and offer them to you in faith and love, seeking to be strengthened to meet them.
God of wilderness and water, your Son was baptized and tempted as we are. Guide us through this season, that we may not avoid struggle, but open ourselves to blessing, through the cleansing depths of repentance and the heaven-rending words of the Spirit. Amen.
Deliver is Good Lord from everything which makes us ashamed when we think of it
The hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class.
The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own
The greed which exploits labour of others and lays waste the earth
Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others
Our indifference to the plight of the homeless and the refugee
The lust which use for ignoble ends the bodies of men and women
The pride which leads us to trust in ourselves, and not in God.
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Thomas Cranmer
