INTERCESSIONS
Prayers of Intercession September 26 2004
Putnoe Heights Church Prayers
for Sunday 26th September 2004
Let us pray...
We thank you, Father, for the beauty of all that you have made. We thank
you for the trees, for wild flowers and the flowers we grow in our
gardens; for the mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, the sea and the
delights of the seashore.
You have made so much for our enjoyment, Lord, and we give you our thanks.
Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.
We live fairly comfortable lives in pleasant surroundings. Let us remember
those at the other end of the spectrum.
Father, we pray for the homes and families and for the children of the
inner cities; for those whose families are broken, for the badly housed,
the lonely and the handicapped, and for all whose lives seem purposeless
or who cannot find work.
We remember especially young people growing up amid urban deprivation and
decay.
Give to us all the will to seek for them a better quality of life, true
opportunity, a future and a hope. In the name of him who loved Jerusalem,
and wept for it.
Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.
We are reminded of the deep divisions in this world, particularly in the
last week in the beheading of the two American hostages. The unspeakable
horror of these killings is justified by the perpetrators as being in the
name of God! We remember especially the unknown fate of the British
hostage, Kenneth Bigley; his family as they anxiously await news; the
families of those killed; and all hostages...
0 God of earth and altar,
Bow down and hear our cry;
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our people drift and die;
The walls of gold entomb us,
The swords of scorn divide;
Take not thy thunder from us,
But take away our pride.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can
quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to
symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope
We remember >>>>
You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light. May
the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in
peace and rise in glory. Amen.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our
Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
