INTERCESSIONS

Prayers of Intercession 9 May at Putnoe Heights Church

Let us pray...

Worship and Praise belong to you, God our Maker,
Where nothing was, you wove the web of being, and still you draw the universe to its fulfilment.
Dawn and evening celebrate your glory till time shall be no more.
In Christ your Son, the life of heaven and earth were joined,
sealing the promise of a new creation, given, yet still to come.
Taught by your Spirit, we who bear your threefold likeness look for the City of Peace
in whose light we are transfigured and the earth transformed.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

On this Sunday at the beginning of Christian Aid week, a prayer to remind us of the suffering of fellow human beings
Lest we forget.

We pray for those who live crowded in shanty towns,
with paper-thin walls inadequate sanitation, and little, if any, clean water;
For those families who squeeze into one squalid room;
For those who sleep rough in the freezing cold.
There are so many people with no place to call home. 0 Lord, help us to help them.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

Let us also not forget those who are persecuted or imprisoned for their beliefs ...
God of love and strength, your Son forgave his enemies even while he was suffering shame and death. Strengthen those who suffer for the sake of conscience. When they are accused, save them from speaking in hate; when they are rejected, save them from bitterness; when they are imprisoned, save them from despair. Give us grace to discern the truth, that our society may be cleansed and strengthened.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for good government Spirit of justice, creator Spirit;
help us to make and keep this country a home for all its different peoples,
and grant to our government and all its representatives imagination, skill and energy
that there may grow amongst us good neighbourliness and peace.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are ill and those who minister to them Jesus our Healer,
we place in your gentle hands those who are sick.
Ease their pain, and heal the damage done to them in body, mind or spirit.
Be present to them through the support of friends, and in the care of doctors and nurses,
and fill them with the warmth of your love now and always.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

A prayer for those who have died
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more,
for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4

Welcome, Lord, into your calm and peaceful kingdom those who, out of this present life, have departed to be with you.
Grant them rest and a place with the spirits of the just and give them the life that knows not age,
the reward that passes not away.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench.
We remember before God those who have died
and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope

We remember

May the souls of all the faithful departed
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer.
