INTERCESSIONS

18th May 2003

Let us pray for all people everywhere according to their needs.

O God, creator and preserver of all mankind, we pray for people of every race, and in every kind of need: make your ways known on earth, your saving power among nations.

We pray for all those in missionary work, and those with a sense of mission. We remember and pray for all those people who have made their work amongst their fellow men; bringing news of God’s love and fellowship to all people – whatever their denomination.

We pray for and remember those who have died in missionary work, their message so often misunderstood, their motives regarded with suspicion and even hatred.

Mission may come in many different ways to each of us, or we may find ourselves called to missionary work. Help us to remember, Lord, that mission may be as all encompassing as a lifetimes work in official Church missionary work, to something as simple as a hug for a friend or stranger when it is needed.

We pray for those who hate, that they may learn to love. Grant, Lord that all people may live without fear and hatred as they walk in your ways.

Strengthen your church, Lord, to be united in love and prayer. Help us to be one while respecting each others’ differences, celebrating our variety while facing a common purpose and each pursuing gladly our own mission as we journey through life.

Lord in your mercy

We pray for all who suffer in mind or body and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or love.

We remember this morning those who are mourning because of the death of loved ones in acts of terrorism. Give them your healing peace. We pray for those who commit such acts of violence and terror. Bring them the knowledge of your love, compassion, and forgiveness, that they may turn from the ways of violence and embrace the ways of dialogue and peace. “Blesssed are the peacemakers…

We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….

CandleJesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

Today we remember:- Bertha W- H-

You turn our darkness into light;
in your light shall we see light
.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen.
