INTERCESSIONS

16th June 2002

Let us, with one heart and mind, offer our prayers for the whole Church of Christ, and for all people in all their needs.

We pray the quest for fairness in world trade and opportunities for all peoples to achieve sufficiency by selling their own produce at a realistic price, free from unfair competition from subsidised goods.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for our democracy, that it be appreciated and upheld by all who live under it, and that dishonesty and self-interest may not compromise it.

Let us pray for the peace of the world, that a spirit of respect and understanding may grow among people of all races and beliefs, across international frontiers and across the street; for governments of the nations as well as local communities, that there may be peace and justice among all people.

We pray that the World Cup may offer opportunities for respect to be shown between the people of different nations as well as pride in our own nation

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for the Church of Christ throughout the world: for its unity in Christ, for the fulfilment of its mission, for all ministers of the gospel, and for all of us here in St Mark's.

We pray for all people in their daily life and work, that they may have joy in doing God's will. We pray also for all those taking exams at this time, and for their teachers and families as they endeavour to support them.

We pray for families everywhere, and our own families. Especially on this Fathers' Day we pray for fathers, that they may act with a love which reflects the amazing love of God our Heavenly Father.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for all who minister to the suffering, the friendless and the needy, that God's purposes may be fulfilled.

We pray for the sick, the suffering, the sorrowful, and the dying, that they may be strengthened and comforted.

We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World,
a light which no darkness can quench

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember today Audrey ...

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as we sing the words our Saviour taught us:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever.
Amen
