INTERCESSIONS

5th May 2002

God our Redeemer who in your word commands us to pray without ceasing, we would name in your presence this morning people and situations that need our prayers.

We pray for the church throughout the world and in this country. We pray for our Bishops and Chairman, for this Church and also for Putnoe Heights. We pray for our leaders and all who serve in this church in positions of authority, and all those who offer their services in carious ways in the service of Christ.

Keep us always mindful of the greatness and richness of the fellowship to which we belong that we may share with those outside, for the benefit of all and for your greater glory.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Lord God, we pray for rulers and statesmen who are called to leadership in the affairs of the world. Give them vision to see far into the issues of their time; courage to uphold what is right; and integrity in their words and motives.

Lord, we all know that while we in this country have an abundance of good things,  much of the world in is terrible want. While we have money enough, and to spare, vast numbers are desperately poor. While we have far more to eat than we need, multitudes are dying of starvation. Lord, give us the courage to face these things and to think more deeply about them. May thought lead to action in whatever way is in our power.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for our neighbours and for the people around us with whom we work and share our daily lives.

We pray for those who are old and lonely, those isolated because of ill-health and those who find it difficult to make friends. Show us what we can do to help, and teach us to be good neighbours.

We thank you, O Father, for all the joys and blessings of family life. Forgive us when we quarrel and make us ready to forgive one another.

We pray for those subjected to abuse and who live in constant fear. Strengthen the determination of all who seek to help them, and may peace rule in their homes.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for your love for little children, May your blessing be upon --- whom we have brought to you in baptism, to be received into the family of your church. Grant that he may grow up to be a faithful member of that family and may learn to love you and serve you all his days.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray for all who are desolate and in pain or sorrow this day. We pray especially for anyone known to us who is in trouble, need, sickness or adversity. We pray in a moment of silence as we name them in our hearts.

We pray that your blessing be upon them, and those who try to help the,, and we pray that they may find encouragement and peace, that their sorrow be transformed into comfort, and their loneliness into fellowship with you.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for those who have died in the faith of Christ. We thank you for allowing us to share our lives with them.

We pray for those who mourn. Open their minds that they may find a new direction in life and grant them the comfort of your presence.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
