INTERCESSIONS

23rd September 2001

Let us pray for all people everywhere and for all their various needs.

Lord, be with us and help us to pray us as we wait for what is to come, hoping for the best but fearing the worst. We pray that those who seek revenge in the name of justice may see clearly what it is they do, and that their hatred may not fester in their hearts so that it damages the hater more than the hated. We pray

that those who call for war may know your peace,
that those whose hearts are twisted by hatred may know your love,
that those who are bitter may know your sweetness,
that those who fear may know your freedom,
that those who despair may find hope in you.

We pray for world leaders, that they may be granted wisdom, compassion and understanding.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for people of faith throughout the world as well as your Church here in the Partnership. Guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that all who love the Lord, by whatever name they call him, may walk together in faith and unity, and bear witness by a spirit of mutual respect and love.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer in mind or body and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or love.

We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ....

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father:
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amen
