Prayers for the fourth Sunday before Lent

The Teddy Bear Service

Thank you, Lord Jesus for coming
Into the world for me,
For taking a human mother,
Silently.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for growing
As a boy for me,
Learning the ways of home life,
Obediently.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being
A perfect man for me,
Working hard for Joseph,
So willingly.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saying
Wonderful things for me,
Written down in the Bible
Truthfully.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for taking
The cruel cross for me,
Allowing rough men to kill you,
Most brutally.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for rising
In resurrection for me;
Now you are alive for ever
Triumphantly. Amen.

A prayer for the family :-
Lord Jesus, help us to be more loving in our homes. Make us thoughtful for others and help us to think of kind things to do. Keep us from grumbling and ill-temper and help us to be cheerful when things go wrong and our plans are upset. May we learn to love and understand each other and think of others before ourselves.
Lord in your mercy; Hear our prayer.

Let us think of all the people who work for us;
The men and women in factories, shops and offices;
Bless them and help them, O Lord.
The farm workers, gardeners, builders, and all who help to
provide our homes and food and clothing;
Bless them and help them, O God.
Those who carry people and goods, by road, railway, sea or air;
Bless them and help them , O Lord.
The police, firemen, solders, sailors and airmen, who protect us;
Bless them and help them, O Lord.
The scientists, doctors, nurses, and hospital workers, who
care for our bodies;
Bless them and help them, O Lord,
The artists, entertainers, musicians and writers, who
delight and instruct our mind;,
Bless them and help them, O Lord.
Those who teach, govern and guide us;
Bless them and help them, O Lord.
Those who can find no work to do;
Bless them and help them, O Lord.
Blessed Lord, who worked as a carpenter at Nazareth,
teach all people to work together for the good of the
world and the glory of God. Amen
(A Brownie Guide prayer)

We pray for the lonely :-
Lord, we pray for all who are lonely; children who are being bullied and dare not tell anyone; shy people who find it hard to make friends; those who feel rejected and isolated; those whose partner has died or left them; and elderly people who miss their families and old friends.
Lord, be with them all in your infinite love.
Lord in your mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for those who are ill :-
Jesus, our Healer, we place in your gentle hands those who are sick. Ease their pain, and heal the damage done to them in body, mind or spirit.
Be present to them through the support of friends and in the care of doctors and nurses, and fill them with the warmth of your love, now and always. Lord in your mercy; Hear our prayer.

We remember those who have died :-
We give back to you, O God, those whom you gave to us. You did not lose them when you gave them to us and we do not lose them by their return to you. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

We remember ……….

You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen.
