Prayers for Easter Day 2005
Christ the Lord is risen today: ALLELUIA.
Sons of men and angels say:
ALLELUIA.
Raise your joys and triumphs high: ALLELUIA.
Sing ye heavens; thou earth,
reply: ALLELUIA.
E is for Easter, with us again
A is for angels, near the tomb
S is for the stone, which was rolled away
T is for the tomb,found empty that day
E is for the early morning, the women were glad
R is for the risen Lord, no need to be sad
The children waved palms before Jesus, our children waved palms so joyously
before us last Sunday.
A prayer for all our children:
Lord Jesus, you watched the children at play; you took them in your arms and
blessed them.
We pray for our own children and children throughout the world. Hold them
in your arms of mercy and give them your blessing, that in some way they
may grow up in the knowledge of your love and give their lives to you,
their Saviour and their Friend.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
The world was in turmoil at the first Easter. Has anything changed? A prayer for peace from our Good Friday service:
Most gracious God and Father, in whose will is our peace: turn our hearts
and the hearts of all to yourself, that by the power of your
Spirit the peace that is founded on justice may be established throughout
the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Now a prayer for the morning of Easter Day,
A prayer for ourselves, our
highs and lows, our strengths, and our weaknesses:
0 Lord Jesus Christ, who upon this day did conquer death and rise from the dead,
-
and who are alive for ever more, help us never to forget your Risen Presence forever with us.
Help us to remember,
That you are with us in every time of perplexity to guide and to
direct;
That you are with us in every time of sorrow to comfort and
console;
That you are with us in every time of temptation to strengthen and to
inspire;
That you are with us in every time of loneliness to cheer and
befriend;
That you are with us even in death to bring us to the glory of your side.
-
Make us to be certain that there is nothing in time or in eternity which can separate us from you, -
so that in your presence we may meet life with gallantry and death without fear.
We remember before God those who have died, and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember: (Names)
You turn our darkness into light, in your light we shall see light. May the
souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of
God, rest in peace and rise in glory.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
