St Mark’s Clubhouse and drop-in is an exciting project, financed by the European Social Fund co-financing. It opened on 1 March 2005 and welcomes approximately 20 adults with learning disabilities each day.

Opening days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m and operating from St Mark’s Church Community Centre.

The Centre has disabled access and facilities as well as off road parking. Cooked meals, snacks and refreshments will be available at non profit making prices and participants will take part in the catering as part of their work experience.

Aims and Objectives

The aims of the project are to:

  • Deliver high quality work experience and training to adults with learning disabilities who are disadvantaged in the labour market.
  • Provide a social venue to enjoy meeting friends and participate in a rewarding social experience.

Work Experience and Training

Skilled and experienced staff will be on hand to provide guidance to beneficiaries, as well as receiving support from selected volunteers.

Comprehensive, individually tailored training packages will be offered to participants, who will be encouraged to build up their own portfolio.
Work experience will be available in catering, care, customer services and administration. Training and skills development will be provided in areas such as personal, interpersonal, organisational, independence and self advocacy. Participants will be given support and information to access other services by the provision of signposting sessions. It is anticipated that skills and confidence will be enhanced, enabling participants to move on to nationally recognised training and employment.

Social venue

The St Mark’s Clubhouse will also provide a venue where participants can enjoy a happy social experience. Equipment and activities will be on offer to develop skills as well as to be enjoyed!

Management

Day to day management of the project is by Project Managers but overall responsibility for the project lies with the St Mark’s Council. It delegates management of the project to the Church Community Centre Management Committee, which meets monthly to monitor delivery of milestones and achievements.
