Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Second Sunday of Epiphany

Sisters and brothers, fellow disciples of Christ, let us lift our hearts in faith to the one who hears all prayers and holds close all those in need.

When the song of the angels is silent, when the star in the sky is gone, when the kings and princes are home, hen the shepherds are again tending their sheep, when the manger is darkened and still, then the work of Christmas begins. The work to find the lost, to heal the broken hearted, to feed the hungry, to shelter the homeless, to rebuild the nations, to teach God’s Children, to work for peace among people,
to befriend the lonely, to release the prisoner. Holy Spirit of God, fill us and inspire us with your life giving power to enable us to be faithful disciples to proclaim the good news of the Holy Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Lord God you have called us as your disciples to serve you, guide your Church to speak your word clearly in the midst of so many competing voices, that people may be led in the ways of justice and peace and be freed from the heavy burdens which come from walking in false paths which promise satisfaction from wealth, ambition, power or greed. Give us voices which speak of your powerful love and your just and gentle rule, which leads to life and satisfaction for our souls.

Inspire your people with your love we pray, that we would have compassion on those who are afraid, who feel inadequate for life or the demands which are placed upon them. Open our eyes to those with whom we live and work to see where is need for us to reach out with your loving touch. Have mercy on those who hold anger or resentment in their hearts which prevent them from fullness of life, help those who find it hard to forgive others or themselves, give your healing to those who carry the wounds of broken relationships or bereavement.

We give thanks for those who were your disciples in this life and have passed to life eternal and who by grace share in the joy of your presence. We commend to your love those from whom we are now parted for a time, for whom the Lamb of God died. Especially this day we also remember ……. may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory. We your disciples present our prayers and offer ourselves as your living presence to fulfil what we have asked.. Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
